Lake James Lutheran Chapel History 1928 - 2018

90th Year Anniversary

 

1928

  • 2/17/1928 Organization formed and election of officers 

  • Ground donated by Mr. & Mrs. William Fruechtenicht 

  • 4/13/1928 Chapel staked off 40 x 20 William C. Goeglein, Charles Smith, and Edwin Lampe staked off in whirling snow and frozen ground. 

  • William Fruechtenicht Sr., George Frechenicht, ChristIan Meyer, and Paul Richter Sr. were also present. 

  • 6/30/1928 First Service - Determined to be too small. 

1931

  • A separate two story cottage was built for the parsonage, freeing space 

  • within the chapel. 

1941

  • 7/13/1941 Pavilion dedicated. 

 

1948

  •  16 feet added to the length of the chapel. 

1960 

  • 1.7 acres were purchased along the east for additional parking space. 

1963 

  • New windows were installed in the chapel 

1968

  • 6/23/1968 40th Anniversary year celebration 

1970 

  •  Chapel was carpeted. 

1971 

  • 9/2/1971 2nd Bell installed and 1st and 2nd bells dedicated to the Glory of God in memorial to the Founders of the Chapel 

1973 

  • Summer 45th Anniversary year celebration 

1975 

  •  Fall Two lots purchased from Fruechtenicht estate on South side of chapel  

 

1977

  • Fall, 1977 Nine sided chancel was added. 

 

1978

  • 50th Anniversary year 

  • 5/28/1978 Chancel addition was dedicated. 

  • Fall, 1978 Narthex enclosed. 

1981

  • Summer Resided the chapel with gray vinyl 

 

1983

  • 55th Anniversary year 

  • Lake James Chapel group of members celebrated at Lake James Country Club 

1985 

  • Connected onto a new central sewage system. 

  • New restrooms constructed. 

 

1988

  • 60th Anniversary year celebration 

  • Restroom facility next to chapel and parsonage built and completed. 

 

1997

  • 6/29/1997 7th organ installed and dedicated. 

1998 

  • 70th Anniversary year celebration. 

  • 6/28/1998 70th Anniversary worship celebration  

  • Chapel capacity was 225 and overflow seating on benches. 

  • Public address system was installed for benefit of outdoor worshippers. 

 

2000

  • 4/13/2000 By Laws revised. 

 

2001

  • 5/27/2001 Purchased new hymnals. Much of cost was covered by Memorials. 

  • “All God’s People Sing” dedicated by Rev. Luther Strasen. 

 

2003

  • 75th Anniversary year celebration. 

  • 8/3/2003 75th Anniversary worship celebration 

 

2006

  • Window air conditioner installed for the parsonage. 

 

2008

  • 80th Anniversary year celebration 

  • 6/22/2008 80th Anniversary worship celebration 

 

2013

  • 85th Anniversary year celebration 

  • 6/30/2013 85th Anniversary worship celebration 

 

2015

  • Roof Installed on Chapel and Parsonage 

 

2017

  • Audio installation completed. Risk Losher serving. Following Paul  

  • Meyer’s service, Rick Losher continued with this ministry. 

 

2018

  • 90th Anniversary year celebration 

  • 6/24/2018 90th Anniversary worship celebration. Rev. Albert Bierlein served as  liturgist and Rev. Paul Shoemaker, Chapel Spiritual Advisor, preached. 

  • Dan Schmidt serves as President; Linn Kracht, President elect;  Nancy Losher, Secretary; Neil Rekeweg, Treasurer; Rick Losher,   sound system; Bertie Melcher, flower ministry; Cathy Meyer,  Carol Bruick, Kay Schultz, greeters, cleaner schedules; 

  • Bonnie Schlegel, altar paraments; and Dave Clary, security. Candace  Prochaska began serving as Historian Fall of 2017. 

 

2019

  • Baptisms: Three—Marek Thomas Prochaska 5/26/2019.  

  • Emerick David Seeberger and Daxton Linn Lussier 8/25/19.  

  • No weddings.  

 2020

  • Pandemic 2020. Services and seating were adjusted for social distancing, Congregational meetings, discussions, and decisions were made regarding worship, singing, and masks. The Constitution and By Laws Committee provided a survey for all members and visitors for an opportunity to share thoughts regarding their worship experiences. The survey additional questions to help the Chapel leadership go forward into the future. 

  • Member Ron Ball died. 

  • No weddings or baptisms
